Some of the feedback we have received:
It is good to interact with others and be able to ask questions in a face to face environment.
I have found the two and a half course full of information which will help me in the future. The instructors helpful kind and full of knowledge.
It was good to hear about the experience of others managing their diabetes - how they felt about it - how easy or difficult to stick to diets, etc.
Really informative, answered lots of questions, made me think more positively about diabetes.
The DESMOND Poem
This lovely poem was written by a previous participant;
Went to a DESMOND meeting today
A bit apprehensive I must say
A full day talking about food
Not my idea of fun "not being rude"
Sugar, carbs, starch my head was in a spin
How do you manage to take it all in?
One of the really nice staff made me grin
She said it's hard to digest and take in
She meant the information not the food
But it got us all laughing and lightened the mood
It was a fantastic day it has to be said
Now I know how much sugars in my bread
Bad fats and good fats are implemented in my brain
Having smaller portions I have myself to train
Eat little more often and exercise more
And you'll have fewer visits to your Doctors door
So one final thing before I depart
Too much weight puts a strain on your heart
You'll get tons of information if you're asked to go
So please attend and don’t be "a no show"
The information you receive could prolong or even save your life
